Each day Palestinian children suffer hardships that adults often struggle to overcome. After the bitter conflicts and the continual threat of bombs, children continue to suffer in silence.

It has been estimated that over 54.6% of Palestinian children who were living close to former checkpoints in Khan Younis and Rafah show symptoms of severe Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. More than 50% have seen a dead or injured person; in 23% of the cases that person was a family member.

Many children have left education in order to earn a living to feed their parents and siblings; in fact, one in every two working children has had to give up their education in order to provide financial support for their family.

Children in Palestine are traumatised and depressed, and some feel that they are a burden to their own families. Left with poor sanitation and heath care, they feel demoralised and unworthy of a decent life. These children have been robbed of their childhood.

However, help is at hand through Interpal’s one-to-one Sponsorship Programme; you can change their lives and re-kindle their hope for a better future.



Interpal works with registered charitable organisations across the West Bank, Gaza, Jordan and Lebanon to assist children in urgent need. With partners on the ground we are able to support children in some of the most hard to reach areas. Our partners provide us with a detailed register of children who are in most need; many are disabled, orphans or have families unable to work due to illness, imprisonment or the prevailing high levels of unemployment.

Our one-to-one sponsorship programme aims to provide essential aid, as well as psychological and moral support, to the most vulnerable in Palestinian society. The gifts of education or clean sanitation and healthcare are invaluable.

Mohammed Ismail was 8 years old when he entered Interpal’s sponsorship programme. His father died when he was only two years old, leaving his mother to provide for him and his three siblings. Living in a run-down home with no support from relatives, his mother struggled to cover their basic needs; food was scarce and clothes tattered; dreams of Mohammad and his siblings attending university were shattered by the realities of a fatherless family living under occupation.
But through our child sponsorship programme, Mohammad was able to break down some of the barriers in his life.

With an annual sponsorship that stretched across 14 years Mohammed was able to attend primary and secondary school with ease. He was able to take the school bus like everyone else and his new pencils and books helped him to master reading and writing. He attended summer camps, shared food packages with his family and played in clothes that kept him warm. He enjoyed life, like children are supposed to.

At 22 years old, Mohammad has now graduated from University and is working to support his mother and siblings. He is making positive contributions to his community, working hard to bring them and his family out of poverty.
