Hope for Palestine

The checkpoints and land theft in the West Bank, coupled with the relentless assault and starvation of Gaza, have left Palestinians in a dire humanitarian crisis. Despite mounting international legal scrutiny, including the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) findings on genocide, Palestinians continue to suffer under siege, displacement, and occupation.

But this Ramadan, let’s bring them hope.

Let Ramadan be the month of hope for Palestine. Act today.

Donate this month to support your brothers and sisters in Palestine; give Palestine a voice by writing and meeting with your local MP; and raise awareness of their plight on your social feeds.

But most importantly, raise your hands to pray for our kin in Palestine.

Hope for Palestine - Ramadan 2025

By the blessings of God, the month of Ramadan has graced us once more.

We fast from dawn to dusk in this sacred month, seeking God’s mercy and forgiveness. The doors of heaven are open, and the rewards for charity, prayer, and good deeds are multiplied.

Yet for our brothers and sisters in Palestine, this Ramadan will be one of immense hardship.

In Gaza, almost 50,000 Palestinians have been killed since October 2023. Hundreds of entire families have been wiped out, homes reduced to rubble, and hospitals bombed. The siege and blockade mean that food, water, and medical aid are being deliberately withheld, pushing Palestinians to the brink of starvation. The situation in Gaza, and especially in Rafah – where most of the strip’s population is sheltering –  is catastrophic, with the ICJ ordering Israel to halt its offensive as civilians face imminent death from military attacks and deprivation.

Meanwhile, in the West Bank, Israeli forces and settlers continue to attack Palestinians with impunity. Land is being stolen, homes demolished, and entire communities forcibly displaced. The checkpoints and military raids make daily life unbearable, while peaceful activism is violently suppressed.

The suffering is overwhelming, but we must not look away.

This Ramadan, let’s take action:

  • Raise awareness: Share the truth about Palestine.
  • Call for justice: Demand that MPs and the UK government uphold international law.
  • Support the cause: Stand in solidarity with those resisting oppression.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) reminded us that the Ummah is like one body—when one part is in pain, we all feel it.

This month, let’s stand together and give hope to Palestine.

What is Zakat?

Zakat is a pillar of Islam and its reward, along with all other good acts, is multiplied during the blessed month of Ramadan.

You are eligible to pay Zakat if the amount of wealth that you have earned is more than the Nisaab (the amount of wealth a person must earn in order for the payment of Zakat to become obligatory). In this case, 2.5% must be given to charity in the form of Zakat.

What is Fidya and how much is Fidya?

Anyone who cannot fast during Ramadan and is unable to make up the lost days afterwards must compensate by feeding a poor person for each day of fasting missed. Fidya for one day is what you consider to be the average cost of two meals.

For UK residents, this would be around £6 per missed fast.

What is Kaffarah?

Kaffarah is the payment to be made if someone intentionally breaks or misses a fast without a valid reason. They must either fast continuously for 60 days or, if this is not possible, they must feed 60 poor people with two meals for one day.

For UK residents, this would cost £360 per missed or broken fast.

What is Zakat-ul-Fitr or Fitrana?

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) made it compulsory for every Muslim to pay their Zakat ul-Fitr prior to Eid prayer if they have the means to do so. The money is distributed amongst the needy so that they too may enjoy Eid.

Zakat-ul-Fitr for 2025 is £7 per person for each member of your household, and must be paid before Eid salah.
